CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (csr) POLICY
York Hotel Singapore is committed to maintaining the highest standards of corporate social responsibility in our business activities. We work hard to make every guest feel welcomed and respected, most importantly, we believe this spirit should be alive in the communities where we work and live. One of our core guiding principles is ‘integrity’, where our team members carry out their duties with honesty, care and pride.
We understand the importance of practicing and advocating good sustainable environmental, employee development, health & safety practices which reflect the expectations and desires of our guests, associates, business partners and stakeholders. In addition, we celebrate and seek diversity in all aspects of our business to ensure the business operations reflect the diverse community of the world in which we operate. The company endeavours to facilitate livelihood opportunities and socio-cultural development in areas of its operations.
To meet this commitment, our CSR efforts are focused on these three main areas:
SUPPORTING AND IMPACT IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES
As part of our continuous effort to integrate Corporate Social Responsibility values in our business, we advocate equal job opportunities such as working with a special education school. Through the support of an agency dedicated to accessing the hotel’s employment needs and providing care and skill training to adults with disabilities during the day, we strive towards ensuring that the industry knowledge and skill sets are imparted to these students with mild intellectual disability and / or mild autism spectrum disorders during their on-the-job training in various departments where they have benefited from our support and engagement.
The hotel is also supportive of the educational needs of the children and grandchildren of our employees with lower income. Through our annual Bursary scheme, eligible team members found this beneficial as it helped them to defray the costs of education. On 26 August 2017, the hotel organised its second education fundraising event. Through the support of our team members and business partners, S$23,499.87 has been raised from this event.
York Hotel also recognises it can play a significant role within the community and seeks to do so by providing financial donations to a broad range of community activities and charities. A key highlight of the hotel’s CSR initiatives includes the 9th edition of the POSB PAssion Run for Kids 2017 where the hotel sponsored S$50,000 to the fund which will provide developmental and community engagement opportunities for children identified by the People's Association Grassroots' Organisation.
In line with the government’s efforts to foster a diverse and inclusive workforce, the hotel also supports progressive employment services for the mature employees through job redesign efforts.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND GREEN INITIATIVES
We focus on reducing our carbon footprint, making our hotel more environmentally conscious by supporting innovative conservation initiatives and inspiring our team members and guests to join us in furthering our environmental sustainability efforts. The hotel was awarded the Certificate of Participation in the biennial 3R Awards for Hotels 2016 jointly organised by Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) and National Environment Agency (NEA). This was the first year the hotel received this recognition by going the extra mile to practice the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) within the premises. The award was first introduced in 2014 to identify and aims to recognise efforts of participating hotels in improving waste management and recycling rate in the hotel industry.
In addition, the hotel also received the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) Green Mark Award (Gold) in the same year.

To drive the hotel’s standards of service excellence and motivate our team members to move forward and beyond, we are committed to retaining and developing them by providing a host of comprehensive internal and externally conducted training activities as well as performance development programmes organised by Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) Skills Redevelopment Programme to enhance their expertise and perform to their fullest potential. We strongly believe in grooming talents within the organisation and this remains an essential part of our long term strategy.
